1월 10일 New Feature - Photos of the DayHey something new for the two or three people who are checking in on my blog daily. Photos of the day. I will try and take some random photos of everyday stuff and put it up for a couple days. If I get anything cool, I can leave it up somewhere else. Today's version is basically me walking to Subway to get a sandwich and then back to work. Very exciting I know.... 1월 8일 Getting nickel and dimed....Often I can handle big problems but it's the little ones that eat at me. Banks and insurance companies are really good at getting on my nerves and this week I've been hit with a one-two punch. First, I lost my KeyBank checkbook. I guess I lost it a week ago but I was sure it would turn up someplace. The last time I remember having it was on Tuesday when I responsibly made my Roth IRA deposit.....for 2008, on the first day possible. Somehow I either left it at Fidelity downtown or dropped it at the Niketown parking lot next door.
Meanwhile, I receive a letter from IATSE (stage workers union, in this case freelancer TV workers) national office saying that I didn't provide them with proof of my other insurance so they are automatically debiting over $800 from my flexible medical spending account. Well I had provided them with proof but they changed their policy so now you have to show them proof of insurance during every single open enrollment period or they will dock you some green. They claim they are doing this for my own good, to protect me. However I know that is BS....it's some pinhead lawyers and accountants figuring out how they can drain off the funds of people who aren't drawing down their accounts fast enough and as an added bonus, won't be using the insurance that they are now paying for. Kind of like buying a worthess extended warrenty that you never use.
You see I have other insurance so I can use that fund for uncovered expenses like co-payment and premiums for my other insurance. I also keep the balance up so I have an emergecy fund in case I lose my regular job. It's my fault because I didn't read all their mailings or the trade magazine (I never read that) but in my defense I had insurance and had provided them with proof and filled out the paperwork. I just don't read every policy document with the small print. Plus I wouldn't have thought it could be legal to debit my account without my consent. I have been told I can show proof of insurance now and possibly get reimbursed for February and March but not January. That's still almost $300....If I want to appeal that, I have to write the board of directors or governors or something like that. I won't hold my breath. Geeze I'm so glad they're looking out for my best interests. Imagine if they were only trying to seperate me from my money.
Okay back to KeyBank. I call up and tell them I need to have 13 checks cancelled from the book that is missing. Fine, they say we'll do that but we suggest you immediately close the account and open a new one because your account numbers could be comprimised. Of course I know this will mean a charge to close the account and another to open a new account which likely will have more favorable bank terms since my account with them had been opened over 20 years ago. Additionally, I will have to order new checks. I just got nailed for $100 for the last batch that they had quoted me as being $33. Well, they had said $33 a box and I ended up with three boxes in the larger box they handed me which I had thought was the $33 box in the first place. (The same checks would have cost about $24 had I bought them from someone other than the bank.) They also sent me the most expensive checks when I had specifically requested the least expensive. To reorder would have been another charge. I'm steamed enough already but then I log onto their website and notice that I have already been charged another $32 to cancel the 13 checks. That's almost $2.50 per check! They never mentioned this fee on the phone but I'm sure it was clearly there in small print in one of their millions of mailings they send out (like the insurance company) to make sure you're so bored and numb by that crap that you won't read the really important stuff when it shows up. Serenity now! Serenity now! I think when I close this account I just might walk across the street and open an account in a different bank....
And to think I was worried about some identity thief draining my account.....I think that route would have been cheaper and less aggravating! Luckily though I received a refund check from the IRS to offset my losses.....a whopping $6.61! Not a personal record. I'm pretty sure they once sent me a check for under a dollar. Those are pretty looking checks though....wonder how much they'd charge me for a three box supply? Storm, Brewing...(I hate coffee)Big news conference in one hour to announce that a group of local investors has purchased the Seattle Storm from Clay Bennett's Sonics ownership group. No names mentioned yet but the move will at least keep the WNBA team in town. Not too surprising. OK City wouldn't be a good fit for the WNBA and Bennett never wanted the team. This relieves him of just dumping the team altogether. I wish the new owners luck and am curious to see if any of them are that well known. Rumored that at least one person in the group is female. A former co-worker from Sonics/Storm days, Susie Jarosch was quoted in a Seattle Times article about the sale. Turns out Jarosch is a sports agent and represents Storm star Lauren Jackson, arguably the best female player in the world.
Bennett's evil plans are progressing nicely. He's rid himself of the Storm and the team is losing lots of games, causing fewer fans to come to games and giving the team a great shot at another top lotto pick. This will make it easier for him to slip out of town due to fan indifference and another star draft pick to market to folks in OKC.
In other evil sports owner news, former Sonics owner Howard Shultz has announced that he is once again CEO of Starbucks. Stock has gotten hammered and they're actually talking about closing stores instead of opening them...
The new Storm ownership is a group of four women, including the mandetory Microsoft executives. I've heard several of the names but nobody too famous. Their option price is for $10 million; the whole Sonics purchase was for $350 million. Good luck ladies, nicely done! 1월 7일 Seahawks crush Redskins....What an exciting sports weekend in Seattle! Seahawks game was unbelievable. I'm sitting there near the end of the 3rd quarter thinking how there's been no turnovers (didn't say out loud) and wham, Seahawks turn it over. Thinking about how the Hawks have controlled game and are only up 13-0 and in a matter of minutes it's 14-13 they're behind and Washington is lining up for an easy field goal......that they miss. Then the Hawks go lights out and Todd Collins is exposed for what he is, a backup QB at best. Marcus Trufant brought the house down with the interception runback for a touchdown and it only got crazier. The entire stadium was on its feet for the whole game, all 68,000 of us. It was almost as loud and intense as the NFC title game against Carolina. Almost....
A co-worker is going to Green Bay this weekend. Apparently his friend is Matt Hasselbeck's nanny and he hooked her up with six tickets. Nice! He says it's supposed to be 20 degrees with the wind chill factor. In other sports celebrity sightings, hipster tipster RK ran into defensive standout Patrick Kearney men's room at El Gaucho's Saturday night after the game and struck up a conversation with him at the urinal. I asked RK how he could dine at El Gaucho's when earlier he had told me he was broke and he explained that he was paying with his fantasy football winnings. Sore subject with me. I did win one of three leagues that I played in this season but in my only paid league, I got last place beating only the commish, El Nable. However the league I did win was the friends bragging league and "Smells Like Fish" knocked off Robbie Bennett for the second year in a row despite him loading up his team with Patriots.
Later that evening I went to the UW/WSU hoops game at Hec Ed and the Dawgs put up a great fight before choking in the final minutes to let the Cougs escape with a four point win. They trotted Marv Harshman out for a halftime ceremony in which I think they said they were naming the court after him. So I guess it's Marv Harshman court at Hec Edmundson Pavillion at Bank of America Arena? Marv looked about a foot shorter than when he last coached the team. I was a freshman at the U the year they ran him out and brought in Andy Russo. Whatever happened to that guy? I'll have to google him. I can say this about the arena, whatever it's called. Smallest aisles in the nation. My knees were in the back of the guy in front of me. Pretty pathetic but on par with many of the facilities at the U. I won't contribute to their damn athletic funds, if you're not in the Tyee Club you won't see any benefits from your donations. I couldn't move once I got to my seat, I was stuck. Lousy job of coaching by Lorenzo Romar in the final seconds too. You have two or three decent shooters so you get the ball to one of your worst shooters and dribblers, Jon Brockman and have him try and dribble and back down low for a spinning jumper in the face of a defender who had already stuffed him bigtime at least three times in the game? So you go for a tie against the #4 team in the nation instead of the win? I think Tim Morris scored all 16 of his points in the first half and I don't even know if he shot the ball once in the second half. The Huskies have no one who can create a shot off the dribble. Oh they wasted a great opportunity.... 1월 4일 Grandma rides a bike....I drove 100 miles south yesterday to my hometown to attend the funeral for my high school English teacher. Church was packed and I saw lots of friends and many former teachers. It really was more of a happy time, catching up with a lot of people you hadn't seen in a long time and everyone remembering funny or happy stories about Georgina. Lots of snow there still. I had to park downtown and have my father pick me up in his 4-wheel drive to get up their hill. More snow than I've seen there in a long time. One funny thing about the services. My parents and neighbors volunteered to copy off and fold all the programs for the service. It took them several hours and when they were finished, Georgina's daughter noticed a typo in the program. She knew her mother would never have accepted that and it would be an embarrassment to have such an error in the program for the funeral of an English teacher. So they re-did the whole thing.
It was too dark, cold and wet (plus too much snow) to ride my four-wheeler but I did visit my grandmother at the long term care home. Grandma is 99-years-young and just recently discovered that she has access to an exercise bicycle at the home. She can't see so very well so it's easy to understand how she missed it. Anyway she rides two miles in 12 minutes every day. She's stepping up the exercise because she's concerned that she's been gaining too much weight. I told her she better keep on top of that because obesity could cause her serious medical problems later in life. (she's 99 already!) Anyway she told me she stepped up the intensity and hit personal records for time and distance, doing 3 miles in 15 minutes the other day. Good for her! She still looks forward to each new day and year, even at that advanced age she's still thinking of the future. Really an inspiration...
I got her a blouse for Christmas but it didn't fit right so I told her I'd take it back and exchange it. I joked that maybe I'd get her a Lofa Tatupu jersey because I had one and so did great grandson Benny. To my surprise she said she'd like that, she could have a lot of fun wearing it on game days. She loves to watch football and baseball although she can't stand listening to Dave Neihaus and was glad to see Ron Fairly go. So she had a good laugh about the name Tatupu and her futile attempts to pronounce it. She laughed even harder when I told her Lofa was the son of Mosi Tatupu. Anyway, she wants the Lofa jersey now.
BTW - I have tickets to Saturday's playoff game versus Washington. In this day and age how can you have a professional sports team in the national capitol called the Redskins? I don't think i'm being overly sensative saying that name and the Cleveland Indians buck-toothed logo are both racially offensive.
After the Hawks game I'm also hoping to take in UW/WSU hoops game at Hec Ed. Cougs are ranked #4 in the nation, unbelievable. Hope the Dawgs can knock them off. Hawaiin Polar Bear....So my friend Dave tells me he also did a polar bear swim on New Year's Day. Yes, he jumped right into the Pacific. One catch though.....he was in Hawaii, the water was 80 degrees! I don't think that should count. Dave also has a funny blog entry about the cable going out in the islands during the University of Hawaii football game the other day. You can check it out on his blog. http://mywestsidestory.com/?p=1142
Dave writes a lot about running and food, specifically in NYC. If you're looking for a good burger or trying to find a scenic running route in-city check him out. He's an interesting dude and much more famous than I am. He was my boss with the Sonics and also ran the matrix boards at Safeco Field when the Mariners opened that stadium. We both had crappy jobs at KIRO TV in Seattle in the early 90s but he's managed to rise above that.
1월 2일 You can tune a piano but you can't tunafish....In my mailbox (snail mail) I just received a promotional card from Shoreline Community College advertising their one-day only PIANO SALE! It's this Sunday from noon to five. Not that I'll be attending, mind you. Not sure why they sent me an invite. What kind of marketing info could someone possibly have on me indicating that I would be a good sales lead to purchase a piano? I did take piano lessons for a year or two in grade school from Karla Winslow but I really stunk. I could only play "When the Saints Come Marching In," and "Scarborough Fair" but even that was up for debate. Now I can just do the little musical thing the scientists played for the aliens in "Close Encounters of The Third Kind." I can't even play chopsticks....
Anyhoooo......as the invitation from Music Department Co-Chair Jeff Junkinsmith Ph. D. informs me, "these pianos have been meticulously maintained and will be sold at far below market value. (that is my price range, hmmm....) Alumni, faculty, staff and invited guests may preview or purchase any piano at reduced prices - By appointment only." It must be a great deal if it's by invitation only. Not just anyone gets invited to a community college used piano sale, you have to know somebody.
Credit cards are accepted and financing and delivery are available. Do they take debit? Alas, I would have to knock my little house down and build it around the piano. Let's say you built a piano from scratch in my living room/dining room/entry way, you would have to climb over it to get from one room to the other. Maybe if it folded out into a futon, might work.
Man, it would really impress guests though....maybe after I get the Velvet Elvis paid off. Polar Bear Swim....Well it's 2008 and day one is in the books. I won two of three card games last night and visited with friends until 5 am. I haven't pulled an all nighter like that in years. slept only until 10 am and then since the weather was so nice I went for a bike ride (it's been awhile since the weather would allow that) and then to the beach for a nice walk at low tide. Stayed on the beach until after dark, it's almost 50 degrees today and with no wind it seemed like in the 60s. Also jumped into Lake Washington for a polar bear swim today. Okay I actually waded in, dunked myself completely under and then got out pretty quickly but nobody else would even do that. Water was so cold but felt really good after I got out. That's third time in past five years I've done it on the first day of the year.
Midnight and I'm running on fumes so short and sweet post tonight... 12월 31일 Hat Trick In Everett...Dan Gendur has just scored his third goal of the night here at Comcast Arena and the Silvertips are up 5-3 in their WHL game versus Kamloops. For those of you who don't know, three goals in hockey is called a "hat trick," and when a player does get three goals in a game, the fans throw their hats onto the ice. So the game was just stopped for a few minutes so they could clean up all the hats. It will take me a little longer to get to my post game New Years Eve party. Happy New Year! Death Of An English Teacher....Sad news today....Ironically I was reading a column about famous people who passed away in 2007 when I received an email from my mother saying that my high school English teacher and a close friend of my family, Georgina Winsberg had passed away in Morton today. Mrs. Winsberg helped teach me how to turn thoughts into words and put them on paper. She was an English teacher and also the school newspaper advisor when I was the editor. While in college I worked a summer job for the local paper and had the honor of interviewing my former teacher and writing a tribute piece about her upon her retirement from teaching. Admittedly I was "teacher's pet," in her class but I worked hard and received all A's until senioritus hit my last quarter of school.
While not British, she seemed so to me with lots of makeup, a wig and the straightest posture you'd ever seen. She was always nattily attired and spoke such proper English I imagined that she even had a British accent. I often thought she would have been a natural on the stage in a Shakespeare production. Whenever I returned to Morton, I would see her making her daily walk, rain or shine, completing a circuit around the town. She was always happy to see me at church and would approach for a handshake which I would wave off in favor of a hug. We would do the same routine every time and she would always act surprised. I didn't realize she had been battling cancer so it was a shock to hear she had passed. I'm glad that I hugged her the last time I saw her. She was a nice lady.
12월 29일 For the ladies: How to find a good man.... Okay so I'm watching this very funny comedian and he says ladies, listen up. I'm tired of hearing you complain about how you can't find a good man. You want to know the secret of how to find a good man. Listen up, I'll tell you. Listening? Here it is........LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS! Cracked me up. Good stuff. I also think it's great advice for most of the women (or men) on Craigslist and Match.com, get real. And what's with the people that put horrible photos up? You know the ones who hold the camera at arms length or shoot their reflection in the bathroom mirror. Why do so many people decide to photograph themselves in the bathroom anyway? I guess that's where they do their best work? But again, why post an ugly photo, who are you thinking you'll attract? I also love the ladies who put photos up where they're licking their lips and their boobs are hanging out and then they say, "I'm looking for a real relationship with a nice guy, not a one night stand." Right...we'll revisit this topic later. 12월 28일 Gary Payton - Good Riddance!.....In another life (actually as recently as four years ago) I was an in-house video producer for the Seattle Sonics of the National Basketball Association. I've kind of soured on the NBA and the Sonics too but I gave in and tuned in to last night's game to check out the Boston Celtics and the return of Ray Allen. (My brother and nephew were attending in person, young Ben lasted 3 quarters before they had to head home.) My thoughts are the Celtics are going to need to acquire a veteran point guard before the end of the season and do something to shore up their bench. That's not what I'm here to write about though. The return of Allen meant that the Sonics would have to come up with the obligatory "thanks for the memories," video for Ray and that reminded me of the video I had to quickly put together after Gary Payton and Desmond Mason were traded to the Milwaukee Bucks four years ago for.....Ray Allen. At that time I had to put together the "thanks for the memories" video for "The Glove, " arguably the greatest player in Sonics history.
We didn't have much time because the Bucks played in Seattle right after the trade. As it turned out, GP didn't even show up that night but we still had to prouduce a video. Looking through our music library, I found a few candidates to run by the powers that be and they liked Green Day's "Time Of Your Life." Nice song, lyrics okay and the video turned out pretty nicely. It wasn't until after the game that I realized to my horror that the actual title of the song is "Good Riddance." I was shocked that local columnists like Steve Kelley and Art Thiel never caught that. I'm sure they would have figured we did it on purpose because in private many people in the organization were not sad to see him go. He could be a pain in the ass but I never had any problems in the few times I had to work with him. He was always animated and energetic whenever I had to record him doing crowd prompts and chants for the videoboard. He even had some hilarious dance moves for the fan dance videos. I also enjoyed his version of the English language. He had his own way with words, Glovespeak I guess you'd call it. I'd have to rate Gary #2 for material shot for the videoboard. Brent Barry was far and away the greatest guy to work with on that stuff. After awhile he got sick of it but he is one smart and very funny dude. He would have fit right in on Seinfeld I think. (I'm glad Brent is winning lots of games with the Spurs now, he's a class act.) Okay, I rambled a bit but back to the video. Gary, I didn't know the song was called "Good Riddance" and I wouldn't have used it if I did. My apologies.
Speaking of Gary and the Sonics, at last week's game against Toronto, I ran into another Sonics alum who also worked for the Gary Payton Foundation, Steve Banks. Banks is now a sports agent and working for Goodwin Sports Management, he represents Rodney Stuckey, former Eastern Washington University standout who was drafted 15th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. Nicely done Steve, keep up the good work! 12월 26일 This Story Literally Stinks....From the Des Moines, Iowa Register... DES MOINES, Iowa — Christmas Eve stunk for Robert Schoff. The 77-year-old Des Moines man got stuck in his septic tank. 12월 25일 An American Blogger In China... For my friends in China, this guy is a friend of a friend. He's trekking through Asia and just spent seven days in China. Here's some thoughts and photos from an American perspective. Check it out. http://theartofstopping.blogspot.com/ A Camel Through The Eye Of A Needle For those of you looking for that last minute Hanukkuh gift for that mensch who has everything....Israeli scientists have created the
world's smallest Bible, fitting a Hebrew-language version of the holy
book on a silicon chip smaller than a pinhead.
Speaking of pinheads, who gave this project the green light? Researchers from Israel's Institute of
Technology, were able to pack the Old Testament — on a 0.5 millimetre square. Ohad Zohar, who
directed the project, said
"This is the world's tiniest Bible. The Guinness Book of World Records has a Bible 50 times bigger."
The scientists managed their feat by sending focused beams of
tiny particles, called gallium ions, onto the surface of the silicon
chip.
"By sending a particle beam towards various points on the
substrate, we can etch any pattern of points, especially one that
represents text," said Zohar, a physics doctoral student.
Don't these scientists have anything better to do with their time, maybe work on a cure for cancer, AIDS, baldness? The nano-Bible was developed as part of an educational program aimed at increasing interest in nanoscience among teenagers. The scientists now want to take pictures of the miniature Bible and blow it up to a seven-by-seven meter (yard) poster, which will make it "possible to read the entire Bible with the naked eye," he said. Maybe they should have created nano-videogames and nano-cellphones if they wanted to attract teens. All together now, David Lee Roth, lights the menorrah.... Christmas In China.... Merry Christmas! It's officially here on the west coast now. I'm still up hoping to catch Santa coming down the chimney. Here's a link to an interesting article about Christmas time in China from the Seattle Times. The Times is also running a blog by a reporter in Beijing leading up to the Olympics. Check it out! http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2004089750_chinachristmas24.html 12월 24일 Are Space Aliens Stealing Our Plasma Screens? Happy Christmas Eve from Kingston! (Washington, USA not Jamaica) Finally a sunny, dry day in the Seattle area. Beautiful ferry boat ride across the sound and I had a nice beach walk and nature trail hike near Point No Point (that's the name, really) lighthouse with my brother's Danish Schnauzer Buddy. Took my camera along so hopefully I can get some photos up soon. Great Christmas Eve dinner and opened a few presents before part of the family had to head home. I got a Lofa Tatupu Seahawks jersey! Actually I was tipped off earlier in the week by 4-year-old nephew Ben that he had gotten me a Lofa jersey for Christmas. My Aunt Carolyn (local Emmy Award-winning writer for one time KOMO kid's program Boomerang) came across an interesting article in the December 20th Police Beat column in The Stranger and was kind enough to pass it along to me. The Police Beat is always filled with fun stuff but this one had a special twist. On the surface there was nothing that special about the lone crime in the column. Someone called in to report the theft of a 42 inch plasma TV from the lobby of their business. Surveillance video showed a suspect entering the lobby and taking the TV without interruption. This occurred after regular hours when the lobby could only be accessed with an employee card. It is believed the suspect tailed an employee into the building to commit the crime. Riveting drama right? So why was this story given a whole column to itself? Surely there were more dastardly deeds going down on the mean streets of Seattle. (If you ain't never been to Seattle, don't never come to Seattle, cuz you wouldn't understand!) No, the point of interest is that the television was
stolen from the lobby of KIRO Channel 7. Let me repeat, a television was swiped from the lobby
of a TV Station. I was a sports intern there and KIRO 7 was also my
first employer after graduating from college.
In addition to working with Survivor host Jeff Probst and the likes of
TV geniuses Pat Witt, Steve Hamada and Chris Smith (not to mention the future ex-Mrs.
Probst) on the local Emmy-award-winning and extremely short-lived program Northwest Car Care, I also worked a stint in building maintenance,
the department responsible for the lobby security at KIRO. The suspect is described as a black male so that pretty much rules out it being an inside job. (If the suspect had been described as a "perky looking blonde," I would have immediately suspected one of Jeff Renner’s harem of fair-haired weather girls from rival station KING 5.) The following is the article written by The Stranger’s Charles Mudede. “This is not the way most criminals think. If he (the criminal, that is) wakes up in the morning and has it in his head that today is the day to steal a TV, two options will instantly present themselves: one, to burgle a house, and two, to burgle a store. Not for a moment will this idea present itself to him: three, to burgle a TV station. But if you give the third option a little consideration, you will soon see that it has a shimmer of sense. And if you give the option even deeper thought, you will begin to see the sun of its simple logic – the logic of stealing a TV from a TV station. Indeed, isn’t that the first place that a criminal, say from outer space, a crooked E.T., would go if it had no idea how one steals a TV on planet earth? The idea of burgling an earthling’s house or store would not appear to it before the idea of burgling the station for TVs, the center of TVs, the point of their radiation, the source of their entire meaning. We may wonder which came first, the chicken or the egg; in the case of the TV and the TV station, there is no such wonder – we know which came first.” As always, I will contact my sources at KIRO and try to
follow up with more details on this most heinous of crimes. Merry Christmas! 12월 23일 Stripper Pole Coming To Morton?! You can't make this stuff up. (disclaimer: I once worked for the East County Journal, at the time known as the Morton Journal. The name change was a brilliant marketing ploy to increase circulation in places like Packwood, Randle, Glenoma and Mossyrock.) Just received my hometown paper, "The East County Journal," and buried in a front page article about the city council I find mention that Hap's Place, a local bar, was installing a pole for pole dancing. I might have expected something like that in Shotgun Freddy's, home of the Logger's Jubilee wet t-shirt contest but not Hap's Place. Hap's place is pretty much right next to the Roxy Theater, just down the street from the Teen Center and kitty corner across the street from the police station. Location, location, location.....Anyway, at the last city council meeting a community member appeared before the council and in "a somewhat heated discussion," raised concerns about said pole: "If you want to go to Seattle to see that, (pole dancing) you can but it is not the place for it in Morton. The council needs to stop the fighting, the window busting, and the kids going into these places to drink. A pole is for perverts." Police Chief Mortensen reported that he had contacted the bar owner and she assured him the pole would not be used by professionals, only locals. Hmmmm....not that comforting if you ask me. I think that fact alone will keep me from attending the opening day festivities. Mortensen said "the pole is not illegal and can't be stopped." (You cannot stop it, you can only contain it...) Mortensen will continue to monitor the situation (tough duty, cue the music: bad boys, bad boys!) and "should anything arise (no comment) that is illegal, he will take action." Your tax dollars at work, citizens of Morton, you can sleep easy tonight. I am also now revisiting my decision to install a pole in the middle of my living room. I will keep you abreast of the situation. I promise to rip the top off the story and get down to the bottom of this exotic situation. I pledge to strip away at the rumors and get down to the bare facts. I will uncover all and get to the naked truth of this matter that is arousing my hometown....Maybe I can get some unadulterated photos of this notorious pole while I'm at it. Gracie Hanson is rolling over in her grave. (she's dead right?) Stay tuned.... 12월 19일 Christmas is coming....Slow news day Finally started my Christmas shopping tonight downtown. Still raining and the weather is just miserable. May be snowing on my commute tomorrow up north. Went to the singing squirrels movie last night, "Alvin and the Chipmunks," with Marina and the Ronie. Probably a fun movie for kids, (M & R enjoyed it) I could've waited for it to come out on video. Got a feeling that won't be a long wait. The animated squirrels acted circles around their human co-stars. Jason Lee is great as Earl but he cannot carry a movie on the big screen. He was....well, he was Earl in this movie too. Maybe he's not acting on TV. The Ronie and I played one on one Texas Hold'em after the movie and I won $5. Hey paid for lunch today. In other big news, I just noticed Shannon O'Donnell is back doing the weather on King 5, bringing the total of cute, blonde weather girls at the station up to three unless Rebecca Stevenson has moved on. 12월 18일 Starting Out Slowly....Trying to get my page up and going so I can share photos and thoughts. Bear with me as I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computers. I have several hundred photos from China and other adventures so check back on a regular basis and hopefully I'll be updating often. |
